Malaysian Company Sues Apple Over Ad Patent Violation

Here comes a new unknown company suing Apple (Nokia andGoogle, too) over some patent violation. Macgasm reports of Malaysian company StreetSpace suing Steve Jobs & Co. over some violations in a patent which details a “Method and System for Providing Personalized Online Services and Advertisements in Public Places.”

Basically, these guys produce “Web Stations” - mobile terminals (or kiosks) which include the possibility to create user profiles and get personalized, targeted content based on the history the terminal keeps in its memory and location. Sounds like something that could be interesting in the early 90s - and now nobody is caring about anymore. Perhaps these devices are still popular somewhere, who knows.

Anyway, StreetSpace thinks that Google and Apple (with their acquisitions of AdMod and Quattro Wireless) are violating its patents of location-based service which serves targeted content on the go. But there’s a huge difference between kiosks and smartphones, you know?

This lawsuit isn’t go anywhere. Rest in peace, StreetSpace. You, and your kiosks.
