You’ve come such a long way, µTorrent. I remember when I used to launch you on Windows, back in my other life when I was a PC user. Then I moved to a Mac, and started using the much-acclaimed Transmission, a fantastic client which has recently been updated to 2.0, with tons of new features and optimizations.
But like I said, you’ve come such a long way, kid.
µTorrent 1.0 Stable for Mac was released this morning. With this release, the developers are porting the same engine and core features of the popular Windows version to the Mac, your call if this is a good thing or not. Before you judge though, be aware that this is fully Cocoa-based, built to be lightweight, minimal and fast. A first alpha version of µTorrent for Mac appeared three years ago.
This stable version “contains all the protocol enhancements µTorrent is known for, including DHT, PEX, Protocol Encryption and the new uTP transport – while delivering fast downloads in a simple, resource friendly package.” I haven’t tried this personally - yes, I’m kind of a Transmission die-hard fan -but if you have, please leave a note in the comments below and tell us your impressions about it.
