Delibar for iPhone Syncs Bookmarks In The Cloud - Review & Giveaway

I don’t really save bookmarks anymore like I used to, but I know hundreds of thousands of users out there save any kind of content every day on popular services like Delicious, Pinboard and historio.us. I’m out of the bookmarking game, maybe because my browser’s address bar became so smart I can type a few characters and get back to that post I needed. Or maybe because I save the stuff I want as starred items in Google Reader and faves in Twitter or then again, maybe I was just tired of bookmarking. Like I said, though, bookmarking services are far from dead, even if people like me stopped using them.

For this very reason you should welcome the release of Delibar for iPhone, which is, hands down, the best iOS app to access Delicious and Pinboard bookmarks.

I used to rely on both services a lot in the past, so I entered my Delicious credentials in the app and gave it a try. As ShinyFrog tradition, the UI is polished and good looking, just as the application’s icon. Adding an account takes a few seconds, and upon configuration the app will immediately start syncing bookmarks from the cloud to the device, but that won’t take long either as the developers decided not to pull the whole list of bookmarks (which is huge for some users, thousands of entries) but to fetch the most recent ones instead. Smart move. You’ll be able to access these items in the Bookmarks tab at the bottom.

So what if you want to check on bookmarks the app doesn’t consider “recent”? You can search and filter by tag. All your tags will be fetched by the app, and it’ll also tell you how many bookmarks you’ve filed under each tag. Useful. I particularly appreciate the fact that you can save searches, something I haven’t seen in other similar iOS apps. Of course, bookmarks can be modified form the device, shared via email and opened in Safari, or you can view the contents of a link via Instapaper or Google Mobilizer. The app comes with an integrated web view as well.

One feature I particularly appreciated is the breadcrumb navigation for tags and subtags. As you can see in the screenshot, you’ll be able to jump back and forth between the tags list, a specific tag and all the other related tags with just a few taps in the top bar.

If you depend on Delicious (both legacy and Yahoo accounts are supported) or Pinboard for your daily bookmarking sessions, Delibar is for you. At $1.99 in the App Store, I recommend this if you use these services a lot.

If you head over the giveaway below, we have 5 copies of Delibar for iPhone and 5 licenses of Delibar for Mac up for grabs.
