Get Rid of Context Menu: Drag & DropZones Brings Gestures to Firefox

There’s no doubt that gestures-based navigation is a great feature: instead of right-clicks and context menus you can simply move around your mouse/fingers to perform actions.

Thanks to Apple’s multi-touch trackpad and some nice Firefox add-ons, gestures are slowly becoming mainstream: amongst many of those Firefox add-ons I want to talk about Drag & DropZones.

Drag & DropZones is, basically, a shortcut grid system: to make it work, you highlight some text and drag it into Google’s dropzone to search it. Moreover, you can also drag any link / image / whatever and drop it into the zone you want.

Every dropzone is a shortcut to a context menu action: so, for example, you can assign “Open link in a new tab” to a specific box (see image above) and dragging links into that zone will open them in a new tab. When you are running Drag & DropZone  for the very first time, all your Firefox Search Engines will automatically be assigned to a DropZone, so you are ready to go and enjoy it immediately. Besides, it will also import context menus that depend from your installed add-ons, such as Zotero Library or 1Password keychain.

The coolest thing, anyway, is that you can customize everything: from grid size to dropzones color, you will able make D&DZ the perfect extension for your needs.
