We know Fuel Collective as a company that makes great software, and their latest application, Permute, has officially become one of my must have apps on any Mac. If you need some convincing, imagine being able to convert your favorite TV shows or music videos to any format imaginable. Just tell Permute that you want the latest Lady Gaga music video formatted for your PS3 or iPhone, and it does the job for you. The end user shouldn’t have to worry about extensions or formats - all the user should be concerned about is getting their files converted to the platform they want quickly and easily.
Let’s take a look.
Being a big Alice in Chains fan, I figured I’d convert my media so that they’d be Xbox 360 compatible. Converting the two videos was as easy dragging my media into Permute, selecting the platform I wanted to watch the videos on, and watch Permute scream through the conversion process. It took a total of 6 minutes (3 minutes each video) for the conversion takes place. Depending on your Mac’s hardware, these times will vary.
Certainly there will be affectionados who will want to tweak the defaults, and you certainly have those options available. Adjusting the bitrate and audio quality of your videos is as easy as adjusting a slider in the preferences. And if you’re feeling a little DVDish, Permute can handle both the NTSC and PAL formats, as well as give you the ability to create sexy .iso files from .dvdmedia. That’s pretty incredible if you ask me.
Permute is launching today at noon (CST), and we’re giving away one copy to a lucky reader whose just dying to get the ultimate converting experience. Just like the Mac, Permute is the application for getting that season Lost you downloaded onto your iPod.
In the meantime, check it out here for more information.
