When Matt Comi and friends Neven Mrgan and Cabel Sasser set out to create a one of a kind experience on the iPhone and iPad, they not only succeeded in delivering something that met everyone’s expectations: they knocked it out of the park.
There’s only a few games on the iPhone and iPad that I really enjoy, but The Incident totally blew me away. The minor details such as the battery indicator on the pause screen; fantastic pixels, carefully created by @nevenmrgan; fun and nostalgic chiptunes by @cabel; the fluidity of the environment and character as executed by @mattcomi; everything literally falls into place. It’s thrilling to be brought back into capitative yet simple retro gameplay.
As Frank, you’ll be climbing your way above and beyond mountains of just about anything that might fall from the sky. Couches, minivans, and propeller blades attempt to crush you under their fantastic weight; even with a little pushing and shoving, you’ll have quite the challenge in avoiding dangers from above and below. If you get hit three times, you lose a life and return to the beginning of the level or your most recent checkpoint. In later levels if you stall too much, cursed balloons will force you out of your hiding hole. Sure you can take cover under objects to avoid getting impaled, but you prevent yourself from reaching valuable power-ups such as extending your life meter or the ever helpful protective helmet. There’s so much to enjoy about this game that the replay value remains even after you’ve discovered the cause of all this nonsense.
For only $1.99 in the App Store, it’s a must have purchase for anyone looking for an exciting adventure.
