There’s an application every Mac geek can’t live without: the Terminal. Developed with hardcore users in mind, the terminal is the best way to get things done “the hard way”, via text commands.
Now, Terminal is not the best looking Mac application. Indeed, it’s pretty simple and basic. Outdated, many people would say.
Wouldn’t it be great to have a gorgeous, system-wide terminal?
Visor is a SIMBL plugin which lets you launch the terminal from the menubar or with a keyboard shortcut.
As you can see, the “Visor Terminal” has a translucent, “HUDish” user interface. When you invoke it via shortcut, it slowly comes down from the top and fades to reveal the window behind it. This is pure Mac eye candy.
Speaking of features, Visor has a few worth a mention. You can change the skin and save “Window Groups”, a configuration of multiple Terminal workspaces.
That’s it. Visor isn’t meant to be a replacement for Terminal, it’s a great addiction to a powerful tool which needed a UI revamp.
Now, I hope the future update will let me choose to hide the dock icon and keep the terminal in the menubar.
