OmniGraffle 3.0 Brings the Power of Its macOS Counterpart to iOS

OmniGraffle got a major upgrade on macOS last fall, and now, it’s the iOS version’s turn. Today, The Omni Group released OmniGraffle Standard and Pro 3.0 for iOS. What I said in my review of OmniGraffle 7 for macOS is equally true for its iOS equivalent:

…the power of OmniGraffle lies as much in the flexibility of its tools as anything else. By giving users the ability to tweak virtually any property of a shape, line, or other graphic element on its canvas, OmniGraffle works equally well for prototyping an iPhone app as it does for laying out an addition to your house or creating a corporate organization chart.

The iOS version of OmniGraffle adopts the paneled design found on the Mac, which should make fans of that version feel right at home with the update. The app also brings the iOS version in line with the core functionality of the macOS version including features like artboards.

OmniGraffle Standard and Pro for Mac Gets a Big Update

It’s hard to capture exactly what OmniGraffle 7 is. Sure, it’s a vector drawing and diagraming tool, but the power of OmniGraffle lies as much in the flexibility of its tools as anything else. By giving users the ability to tweak virtually any property of a shape, line, or other graphic element on its canvas, OmniGraffle works equally well for prototyping an iPhone app as it does for laying out an addition to your house or creating a corporate organization chart. With Version 7 of OmniGraffle, The Omni Group plays to its strengths, further extending the power, adaptability, and ease of use of those tools in what adds up to an outstanding update.

OmniGraffle for iPad 1.4 Ships With iOS 4.2 Support, Sync, Stencil Management

A major new version of OmniGraffle for iPad has been approved – and it’s one hell of an update. OmniGraffle 1.4 introduces full iOS 4.2 compatibility, which means the app can now store its persistent state when you switch to another application and can print your diagrams and wireframes using AirPrint.

The OmniGroup didn’t stop at new OS support, even though that would have been enough. They added an enhanced Document Browser with improved sorting and filtering options, stencil management and remote file syncing to iDisk and WedDAV.  You can now also create your own stencils from scratch and access a Font Inspector popover from anywhere.

What a great update. OmniGraffle for iPad is available at $49.99 in the App Store. Check out the full 1.4 changelog below. Read more

OmniGroup Makes $175,000 on OmniGraffle for iPad in 32 Days

From the Omni blog:

“The Omni Group today announced that it sold its five thousandth OmniGraffle for iPad on Wednesday, just 32 days after its introduction on April 3.

“We strongly believe in the iPad’s potential as a productivity tool, and it’s a fantastic endorsement of the product category that OmniGraffle is still on the App Store’s top grossing list a month after its release,” says Ken Case, founder and CEO of the Omni Group. “People are clearly interested in using the iPad for more than media and entertainment. We are thrilled and grateful, and we hope to keep pleasing our customers as we continue in our iPad development efforts.”

You do the math. What was the problem with expensive apps not selling, again?

If you still don’t get it, iPad users want to be productive. And Omnigraffle is just a great app.

Omnigraffle for iPad Will Be Available On Day One…at $49.99

Tyler Tschida of AppAdvice:

“OmniGraffle, one of the company’s flagship applications, has already been submitted and approved by Apple, and will be available for iPad App Store’s grand opening on April 3rd.

OmniGraffle, an app normally available for Mac OS X for $99.95, will be hitting the App Store for $49.99. That price may sound a bit high, but OmniGraffle for the iPad should offer nearly the same experience that the Mac OS X version offers, just with touch controls and a reworked interface. The feature set seems quite extensive as it offers the same automatic layouts and “Smart guides” as the desktop app, and allows PDF export along with the ability to open your creations on OmniGraffle for Mac.”

Look, I can pass along on Omnifocus for iPhone priced at $19.99 (but it’s difficult to accept) but, seriously, 50 bucks? They’d better build a hell of an app, otherwise they’ll just be another dev team who aims at making a truckload of money from the iPad, using the bigger screen as an excuse. We’ll see.
