As if there weren’t enough reasons to visit Amsterdam, you’ll be able to check out Apple’s new Store if you go to the city next year. According to a report from OneMoreThing, city authorities have granted Apple authorization to open the retail store in the center of Amsterdam, at Leidseplein, in the same building of Apple Benelux offices. iPad Snow Globe Makes An Appearance At Apple Stores
Apple is getting ready for the holiday season and, Black Friday sale aside, they have started decorating Apple Stores with giant iPad snow globes. Oh, and some Beatles stuff, too.
As spotted by TiPB, the giant iPad is set to play a video containing iBooks and the Gourmet Live app for the holidays – which undoubtedly is a good move to tout the tablet as the go-to device for people looking to enrich their cooking skills with some geek love this year. As for the Beatles, we’re not really surprised. They’re part of a huge marketing campaign from Apple aimed at promoting both iTunes and the band, so putting some promo material in Apple stores was the most logical step.
Check out the iPad snow globe video below. Read more

Apple TV Launches In Italy and Switzerland, Coming Soon To Seven More Countries?
This morning we noticed the Apple TV was finally available in Italy and Switzerland. As noted by 9to5mac, though, the device will likely launch soon in seven more countries, maybe even tomorrow, as international Apple Stores are returning the same errors the Italian and Swiss ones were returning when the Apple TV wasn’t available last night:
We checked out all the Apple online stores to replicate what happened in Italy and Switzerland and sure enough Taiwan, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Portugal, The Netherlands and Belgium are all displaying the same error message. What does this mean? It means that Apple’s second-generation Apple TV will be launching in those countries very soon, probably tomorrow, and maybe some HD movie rentals in iTunes as well.
We don’t know if the Apple Tv is ready just yet to appear in more countries, but surely the Apple online store suggests something’s moving, and fast. The Apple TV is doing great in the US thanks to its aggressive pricing and small form factor, although the promised AirPlay streaming functionality is still nowhere to be seen.
iBooks Gift Cards Now On Sale in Apple Stores
iLounge noticed Apple is now selling iBooks gift cards in its retail stores. The cards were spotted in the Washington D.C. area Apple Store, and it’s an interesting move because regular iTunes Gift Cards worked just fine with the iBookStore.
I guess Apple wanted to make it clear that books can be bought with a gift card, and I assume those cards are going to be huge this holiday season. I still haven’t spotted them here in Italy, though.
AppleCare Protection Plans Now Transferable To Any Device
According to the latest report by BGR, Apple changed its policy regarding AppleCare Protection Plans and transferability:
Starting immediately, an Apple customer will have the ability to transfer AppleCare Protection Plan coverage to a new device without having to cancel the current plan and purchase a new one. Though no formal announcement has been made to the public, Apple notified its employees of the new procedure on Monday.
This new system simplifies the purchase experience for customers and makes AppleCare even more relevant. Yeah, because in case you’re wondering – you need AppleCare.
“Jobs at Apple” Page Updated With New Positions, Introductory Video
Apple updated its “Jobs at Apple” mini-site to include additional information about the carrier possibilities at Apple Retail, new jobs positions and a video introduction to Apple’s retail philosophy.
Join us at the Apple Retail Store, the unique gathering place where people come to discover Apple products. Show your passion and expertise as you connect customers with our products and help integrate products into their lives. Be a part of our team and change the way our customers work, play, create, and communicate.
Both the revamped page and video focus on detailing the incredible experience that is working at Apple, being part of something that can “actually change people’s lives” and that can “connect customers with Apple products”.
The main page also features recently opened retail stores with positions available: El Paseo Village - Palm Desert, CA; Boise Town Square - Boise, ID; River Park Square - Spokane, WA; Summit Mall - Akron, OH; University Park Mall - South Bend, IN.
The Importance Of AppleCare→
The Importance Of AppleCare
Others will tell you they’ve owned several Macs, without AppleCare. This is the same lot who never purchases “extended warranties,” which they consider “scams.” To them I say that AppleCare is an exception, especially since Macs are increasingly difficult or impossible to get into. Still others will say that Apple ought to include 3 years’ worth of protection with every Mac they sell. Perhaps, but the world as it exists is often disappointing compared to the world as we wish it existed.
And Stephen Hackett’s reply, who worked as Lead Mac Genius at Memphis’ Apple Store:
I know all of this, and I buy AppleCare for my computers. Why? Because stuff breaks. And when Apple stuff breaks, it can be expensive. Unlike a PC that might use a separate board for everything, Apple’s all-in-one logic board approach makes for expensive out-of-warranty repairs.
Computers break. Like it or not, buying AppleCare would be a wise move.
