Reuters is reporting that, according to NBC CEO Jeff Zucker, NBC won’t probably join Apple’s 99-cent rental program unveiled earlier this month. NBC thinks that 99-cent shows would “devalue their content”. Read more

Airplay is Apple’s ‘Go to Market’ Internet TV strategy
Apple’s three year campaign to get content producers to shift from Flash to H.264 has been largely successful and is now at a tipping point. You can now view ‘most’ video on the web on H.264.
That means you can watch most Internet video on AppleTV over Airplay. The day AppleTV is released, you’ll be able to watch free SD versions of clips shows that appear on ComedyCentral.com like the Daily Show and Colbert Report via Airplay. You theoretially should be able to watch Hulu Plus so long as it is encoded in H.264 (and doesn’t get blocked once the networks figure out what Apple has done).
Killing Flash video (or at least making content providers offer H.264 alternatives) is what made all of this all possible. Whatever video you watch on your iOS device, you can now watch on your HDTV.
The 2010 Apple TV: “All Your TV Are Belong To Us”
Apple’s hobby has certainly turned into a delicate little surprise. The new Apple TV is incredibly tiny, fitting into the palm of your hand with its glossy block sides and matte black top. It’s a departure from what Apple normally does with their aluminum based Mac Mini or their plastic white Time Capsules, but as a small addition to your TV, it’s joyfully inconspicuous. Featuring HDMI out, USB, Optical out, and the ever sleek aluminum Apple remote, this year’s Apple TV is greatly compatible with all of your new HDTVs. But how does it fare on the software front? Streaming, not syncing seems to be the answer, but I’m a little disappointed at the total offering.

We’re hearing interesting rumors about Apple’s plans with the new Apple TV (or iTV) these days. Engadget was the first to speculate about the upcoming new device, suggesting a new name and its complete redesign - both in terms of hardware (a very small set-top box) and software (it should run a modified version of iOS).
ITV Executives Planning to Sue Apple Over Some Rumors
A few days ago Engadget posted a scoop about Apple’s plans for the upcoming new Apple TV: iOS integration, no 1080p support, new brand. According to Engadget, the new name should be “iTV” - which sounds pretty likely if you ask me, considering that Apple has recently put a lot of products under the “i-” prefix.
Now, there’s a very little problem. There’s a major UK broadcaster called “ITV” and its executives are getting furious over these Apple speculations and are planning to sue Steve Jobs and all his crew.
Latest Apple TV Rumors Suggest App Store, Lack of 1080p
The next iteration of the Apple TV (to relaunch as the iTV) was rumored to be a pocket sized device capable of serving up streaming media. Engadget notes that this mysterious A4 (16 GB Flash) device won’t be able to serve up 1080p or 1080i video, but it may receive its own entry in the App Store for suitable television applications.
