I posted a preview of My Artists back in June, but the app I have here on my iPhone now is nothing like that. My Artists was already good and promising (as if it wasn0t clear enough), now it’s just great.
It’s more than an iPod companion, it’s a full-featured iPod replacement for iOS devices. Hit the break to find out.
I missed this app on its launch back in April, when the iPad was released. Music Flow does only one thing: it brings the CoverFlow music browsing experience to the iPad, which lacks it by default. It retrieves albums and artists from iPod.app, it gets the album covers and allows you to swipr through them using your fingers.
Simple. $1.99 in the App Store.
Grooveshark have a history for not getting their official iPhone app quite right. First, they wanted to be able to do stuff like background music streaming when Apple wasn’t providing the API for that, and when the app was rejected, they decided to publish it on Cydia. It was even a good-looking app.
A few days ago the client was finally released in the App Store. Now, the app is no longer available.
Speaking of music apps for the iPad, take a look at this video. A group of musicians recreated the 80’s hit “Eye of the Tiger” using only iPad apps (such as Pianolo and Pocket Drums) and then photographer Jordan Hollender shot a great video of the “performance” using Canon EOS 5D Mark II and a Canon EOS 7D.
There are many music apps available for the iPad, especially DJ ones. Great apps, which sport a stunning attention to UI design and rather “professional” features. I bet you haven’t seen anything like SoundPrism by Audanika, though.
SoundPrism will let you “create music” in a different way: you can’t do nothing wrong with it. It always sounds great. So what’s the point? The point is how you create that music: with multi-touch and a beautiful interface specifically designed for the iPad and with iPad users in mind.

I wouldn’t put it past you if you were to argue that the Beatles would be an instant hit on iTunes. Though it’s not likely to happen soon, or ever for that matter. It was speculated that the Beatles may join the iTunes crew during last year’s iPod unveiling, but that didn’t happen. And it still hasn’t, despite the band’s advances in the digital age. Quoting 9 to 5 Mac:
“(Apple CEO) Steve Jobs has his own idea and he’s a brilliant guy,” Ono, the 77-year-old widow of John Lennon, told Reuters. “There’s just an element that we’re not very happy about, as people. We are holding out.
Yoko teased us last year with a claim – later deleted – that music from the band would reach iTunes. She’s not teasing anymore, saying, “Don’t hold your breath … for anything.”

Successful discussions with record labels, followed by the promise of an excellent cloud based service that can be accessed via Android, makes Google’s impending music service incredibly appealing. With the opportunity to instantly open-up a new market to millions of new users and the desire to expand past Apple’s iron fist, there’s an interest here that can’t be avoided.
Audiobox.fm is a great online music service I reviewed a while ago while it was in its early stages of development. The developers are based in Italy, and this - compared to the fact that the service was very promising - couldn’t make me happier. During these months the developers have been working hard on improving the reliability, UI and accessibility of the app, and it shows. It’s almost a new webapp, with a redesigned dashboard interface and lots of more options, plans and extra apps.
Among these apps the iPhone client, which has been approved by Apple and it’s now available for free in the App Store.
We saw the iPad being used as music instrument in the past. There are hundreds of cool applications for DJs, guitar players, even orchestra directors. I bet you haven’t seen anything like this though. A free-hand controller that connects to the iPad and allows musicians to turn music pages using their feet, thus being able to play the instrument.
“A company called Airturn has developed the BT-105, a Bluetooth foot switch for turning pages on the iPad forward and backward using a tap of a foot. As Hugh Sung explains in the video above, it allows instrumentalists who are busy with both hands to use a toe to tap one of the two switches to move through the score easily.”
