Sponsor: Today Weather

My thanks to Savvy Apps for sponsoring MacStories this week with Today Weather.

Today Weather is a clean, elegant, and intuitive weather app for the iPhone. From the creators of Agenda, Today Weather sports the same amount of care and attention to simple and fast touch interactions: you can tap on a location to enter its detail view, swipe left to get a hourly forecast of the next few days, and swipe right to see a beautiful graph for each day’s average temperature and conditions. If you live in the US, you’ll also get a radar view with storms, showing rain and snow. The Forecast view is based on NOAA gradients and the data presented is fast and accurate.

I personally keep Today Weather on my Home screen and I’ve been using it every day since its release. My two favorite features are the Today view – which gives me a quick overview of the current day – and the Forecast, as it lets me visually understand what my week will be like in terms of temperature and weather conditions. I’m a big fan of Today Weather’s design and animations, and I’m looking forward to an iPad version of the app, coming soon.

Sponsor: Pixa

My thanks to Shiny Frog for sponsoring MacStories this week with Pixa.

Pixa is a Mac app to manage pictures that strips-away all the frivolous features: the need to manually add images to a library, and even some of the chores such as tagging images and sharing them. Pixa puts your library of images front and center in a clean and easy to use interface.

Pixa supports all the image formats you need: psd, ai, svg, jpg, png, Acorn, Sketch, and Pixelmator, among others. It comes with auto-tagging (for color, size, and web address information), and a feature called “Live Folders” that allows you to organize your images in Pixa without moving them from their original location in the Finder. I’m personally intrigued by the app’s support for OpenMeta tags and the tips the developers have been sharing on a dedicated Tumblr blog.

Sponsor: Newer Technology NuGuard KX

My thanks to Newer Technology for sponsoring MacStories this week with NuGuard KX.

The NuGuard KX is a protective case for the iPhone 4/4S and iPhone 5. The KX offers protection against accidental drops, impacts, and scratches without sacrificing looks or adding bulk. It’s been certified by Quanta Laboratories to withstand Shock Test Method of the MIL-STD-810G (U.S. Military Standard). And, unlike common military-impact test grade iPhone case materials, the NuGuard KX uses “X-Orbing gel” technology to absorb and evenly distribute kinetic energy. In one piece, the NuGuard KX offers access to all ports and buttons while offering an advanced protection.

Sponsor: PDFpen for iPhone

My thanks to Smile for sponsoring MacStories this week with PDFpen for iPhone.

PDFpen for iPhone is the mobile version of Smile’s award-winning PDFpen for Mac. With PDFpen for iPhone, you’ll be able to make corrections and changes to PDFs, sign contracts and return them, or fill out an application – while you’re on the go.

I like PDFpen because it provides iCloud and Dropbox support, so you can edit your PDFs seamlessly on your Mac, iPad and iPhone. My friend David Sparks has created a series of screencasts for PDFpen, and the app is available at $4.99 on the App Store for a limited time.

My thanks to Orbicule for sponsoring MacStories this week.

Undercover is Find My Mac done right. After a very simple installation, Undercover will run in the background, constantly monitoring the location of your Mac. If your Mac gets stolen, in addition to tracking location Undercover will also snap mugshots through the computer’s built-in camera and capture keystrokes.

I personally use Undercover 5 because I like its web-based interface better than Apple’s Find My Mac. If you’re looking for a more powerful Find My Mac, I highly recommend Undercover 5.
